Shadow and Swans

Today is the first day of December. This morning I spent fifteen minutes scraping the frost off my car. It struck me as odd that there was frost and no rain. It proved to be one of those rare fall days without rain. As the day progressed the weather got better and better. My husband took me to lunch today and the sun was actually shining. I noticed my shadow as we were walking back into the building and it got me to thinking about Peter Pan. If memory serves he didn't know what his shadow was at first, then it scared him. I stood there for a brief moment in the sun feeling the warmth on my fish belly white skin, looking down at my shadow hoping it would move and take on a life of its own like Peter's did.
Then something absolutely rare happened, a gaggle of swans (yes, you read correctly) flew over. They were beautiful. All white and elegant. Not like their noisy Canadian cousins. They flew over head as smooth as pure fine white silk flowing in the wind. So my shadow and I watched them and envied them. Such grace and elegance.
I wonder if this spud will fly with such grace and elegance or stay grounded hoping for more shadows. Here is wishing that your December has lots of shadows!
Cheers, Celeste.
